How to get people to do what you want

Success Sucks

When I first moved to Nashville, all I wanted was a bus tour. I told my friends my goal and wrote it in my journal, chanting, "Bus tour, bus tour, bus tour."

Then, I got the bus tour!! Within a few weeks, I was like, "Meh. Now what?"

Have you noticed how often that happens?

You land your dream job, only to feel restless and unsatisfied a few months later.

You buy the house you've always wanted, and within a year, you're already comparing it to your neighbor's "better" houses.

You plan your wedding for months (or years!), and immediately after, you feel deflated and empty.

In fun news - there's science to explain this!

Psychologists call this the "arrival fallacy," the mistaken belief that achieving a big goal will bring lasting happiness.

In reality, we adapt incredibly quickly to success and the high fades.

That’s why lifelong growth and continuous pursuit of new challenges (rather than fixating on a single achievement) lead to deeper fulfillment.

When you're working toward a goal, your brain releases dopamine every time you progress.

This creates a cycle of excitement and forward momentum, keeping you engaged and energized.

But once you achieve the goal, the dopamine level drops. The brain essentially says, “Cool. Now what?”

A goal is there to set you in motion, but the adventure you have along the way is where you find happiness.

Using the Story Spinner, we transform posts from yawn to YUSS!

Boring Post:

"Exciting news! I just opened up spots for my brand photography sessions. If you need fresh, high-quality photos for your business, book now. Link in bio!"

Let’s Spin It:

🔄 Perspective: A behind-the-scenes realization
🔄 Expansion: Emotional connection

Killer Post:

"People don’t book brand photos because they need pictures. They book them because they need confidence."

I used to think my job was taking great photos. But after years of working with business owners, I’ve learned it’s so much more than that.

It’s the moment they see themselves as the expert they already are. The way their posture changes when they realize, damn, I actually look like the CEO of my own business.

A great brand photo isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about owning your space, your expertise, your presence.

If you’re ready to see yourself the way your clients should, let’s make it happen.

Tools & Resources

I just listened to an episode of The Brainy Business podcast about choice architecture.

It was an interview with Eric Johnson, a leading expert in choice architecture and behavioral decision-making. Johnson delves into the science that explains how the way options are presented to us significantly influences our decisions.

It's the Nudge concept in behavioral economics.

I found it incredibly interesting as a consumer and as a business.

Choice architecture impacts everything from pricing and product design to client onboarding, email marketing, and even how you word your social media CTAs.
